Our Trips

Rikki Dilschneider Guiding on the Madison RiverMontana Trout Stalkers offers many types of guided fly fishing trips to many different rivers. All are custom tailored to meet your needs and goals.  We cater to all anglers and all skill levels, from bare beginners looking to catch that first trout on a fly, to the seasoned angler seeking a good guide who knows the water well and the tactics required to fool fish.  Whatever your seeking in your next guided fishing trip, we will do our best to help you reach that goal.

We offer three basic types of trips: Full-Day, Half-Day, and Overnighters.  Please visit our Rates page for prices, deposit, and refund policies.

Full-Day - Typically a 7-10 hour day departing between 6 and 10 in the morning. We provide transportation to and from Ennis or a pre-arranged meeting place, beverages, Lunch, guidance, instruction, and rods & reels if needed. We ask you to purchase you license, a leader, and a few flies for the day (we'll help you pick them out.)

Half-Day - Generally 3-5 hours either in the morning, afternoon, or evening. We bring snacks and beverages

Overnighters - These trips are arranged on an individual basis. We can do a number of different rivers for groups of up to eight anglers.  Our specialty if the Madison River 2 day/ 1 night camp out trip. A great trip for friends or family. We provide everything except your personal gear.  Please call or write to discuss the options and pricing in further detail.

Montana Trout Safari - Have boat, will travel! We arrange these trips on a completely custom basis. Past safaris have been from 3-6 days and  included trips to the Big Horn, Stillwater, Boulder, Missouri, Dearborn, Big Hole, Beaverhead, Blackfoot, Clark’s Fork, Bitterroot and several smaller waters. Accommodations range from motels to hotels, to fishing lodges. Let’s talk.

Smith River - We are a proud booking agent for Mike Geary's outfit Lewis & Clark Expeditions. This is one of the best overnight camping float trips in North America! The Smith River Expedition is a 5 day, 4 night trip that covers 65 spectacular miles of this beautiful river. Fully outfitted means that you will be camping and travelling in style.. Follow this link or contact us for more details.

3-Day Fly Fishing School – Our School is designed as an introduction to fly fishing for the beginner. We will teach you fly fishing from the ground up. Schools include: Introductory classroom style streamside instruction and lots of fishing. Topics covered include: casting, knots, flies, equipment, fishing tactics, insects & streamology. Transportation, lunch, beverages, flies, leaders, and other equipment is included. Each student will receive his/her own stocked fly box, basic set of fly fishing tools, and MTS garb to keep

Mountain Lake Horseback Trips - This is really a must for anyone visiting Montana. Ride gentle horses to a beautiful alpine lake that's loaded with hungry Cutthroat Trout. We offer these trips in conjunction with one of our friends and fellow outfitters.

We fish predominately from McKenzie style drift boats, but walk & wade trips are also available.  Our boats provide an effective and comfortable way to fish and see a lot of water.  A float trip is almost always a pleasant way to spend a day even if the fishing is less than great.

The fabled Madison River is our home stream.  We guide the majority of our trips on this wonderfully diverse freestone river anywhere from Hebgen Lake Dam to Three Forks, Montana.   However, we also offer Full-Day trips, and in some cases overnighters on the following Rivers: Big Hole, Beaverhead, Yellowstone, Ruby, Gallatin, Jefferson, Missouri, and BigHorn. Please refer to the Rivers We Fish  page for more in-depth river descriptions.

We ask that you purchase a few  flies, a leader, and a license. Your guide will provide all the other tackle you might need. Your guide will also not hesitate to delve into his/her own arsenal of favorite fly patterns in order to get the job done.  Please click here  for a list of necessary equipment and recommended fly patterns.
