Fishing Report
June on the Madison
June 2025
UPDATED 6/26/2025
Salmonflies, golden stones, yellow sallies, and caddis are abundant on the upper Madison right now. The salmonflies are on the upper reaches of the river while the caddis are throughout the system. We’ve been finding fish feeding in low water on dry flies while deeper water has been holding fish willing to eat a nymph or a streamer. With the moody weather we’ve had this last week, streamer fishing has produced some excellent fish. Now that hail and snow are behind us, we’re looking forward to a beautiful weekend in Ennis, Montana.
Low profile salmonflies like the Delektable Water Walker and Fluttering Stone have been my MVP’s. A simple yellow chubby has been an excellent golden stone imitation. Play around with your dropper depth throughout the day. Caddis and stonefly nymphs have been extremely consistent while fishing subsurface. This is an awesome time to be out on the river because there are a plethora of bug options for you to fish.
Streamers: Sparkle Minnow Sculpin, Sculpzilla, Lil Kim, Hot Head Mini Leech Olive, Mini Dungeon White, Woolly Bugger Black.
Dry Flies: Missing Link Caddis, Purple Haze, Chubby Chernobyl, Fool's Gold Golden, Fluttering Stone Morris Salmonfly, Dornan's Water Walker Pink, Henry's Fork Salmonfly.
Nymphs: Pat's Rubber Legs Black, Olive, Brown, Zebra Midge Red, Juju Baetis Red, Wonder Nymph BWO, Lightning Bug Gold, Lil Bit Craven Black, Partridge Soft Hackle Pheasant.
